The Historic Preservation Division of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, partnering with American Institute of Architects | Mississippi, Mississippi Heritage Trust, and Mississippi Main Street, will host its annual Historic Preservation Boot Camp. The two-day workshop serves as an introduction to those interested in, but new to, historic preservation as well as a refresher course for long time preservationists.
Join us as architect Tom Howorth, FAIA, reveals his design from the previous Design Charrette held in February. A final supplies and volunteers list will be composed and posted for sign-ups to complete the community Work Day. Refreshments served.
2018 is YOUR YEAR, Mississippi Architects. We’re kicking it off with a program to get licensure candidates on track to crush the ARE, taking our talk on a walk across the state in our START program, parading our award winning members’ work in a traveling exhibit, teaching property owners about financial incentives that encourage development and raising a toast to hard-working Board Members. Grab a cocktail with us so we can tell you all about it at the year’s first Architects’ Happy Hour.
4-5pm • ARE WAR STORIES
We’re working to get architects licensed and what better way than to hear directly from colleagues who’ve been there. AIA|MS is launching a new initiative that will provide ARE test prep sessions, access to study materials and even reimburse qualified candidates for testing fees. Matthew Friesz, Outreach Manager for NCARB, kicks off the discussion with architects who share their test stories and guidance to help you succeed.
5-6:30pm • TIME TO GET STARTED
The bar opens at 5! Grab a drink and peruse the AIA|MS traveling exhibit that outlines our new program, “START Where You Are With What You Have,” features projects entered in the Mississippi Celebrates Architecture Design Awards, and educates about financial incentives available to property owners. We’ll raise our glass to toast the transitioning Board of Directors and enjoy time chatting with colleagues.
Wind down on the roof terrace at Wier Boerner Allin Architecture with afternoon libations and spirited dialogue featuring Mississippi State University’s Dudy Noble Baseball Stadium.
The Architects’ Happy Hour event series is an opportunity for Emerging Architecture Professionals to host the public in their work environments, raising awareness for the work of their firms and the profession in general while sharing a cocktail and story or two.
