“Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can, At all the times you can,
To all the people you can, As long as ever you can.” ― John Wesley

- SpeakUp! Advocacy Symposium – Presented by AIA|National
AIA National has selected the 2018 AIA | Mississippi State Convention as its host for one of only two sites to host mini-conferences based on its previous national model. Guests will learn about effective strategies to influence elected officials on important legislative policy and how their voices can make a difference. Hear from both state and federal representatives about how to express your opinions with the most impact. Youth participants will also learn about advocacy and how the young people of today can influence lawmakers. Attendees will have an opportunity to earn a trip to Washington, D.C., to meet with their representatives and tour the many treasures of our nation’s Capitol!
- CM-BIM Units 1 and 2
CM-BIM stands for Certificate of Management – Building Information Modeling. It is an assessment-based certificate credential hosted by the AGC. It is gaining traction, similar to the LEED movement in early 2000. Soon architectural firms, engineering companies and general contractors will need at least one person on their staff to be CM-BIM certified to work on federal projects; even state jobs. CM-BIM denotes knowledge and understanding of concepts related to BIM adoption, practice and process transformation outlined in the AGC BIM Education Program. Additional fees apply.
- Golf Outing at the Links at Galloway
Grab your clubs and come a day early to enjoy a day on the course.
- Memphis Architectural Bus Tour with Jimmy Ogle
Our bus tour sells out every year and for a great reason: guests enjoy taking in the local architecture and hearing from the professionals who brought them to life. This year we have Jimmy Ogle, local Memphis historican joining us to tell the deeper story of Memphis as it relates to its built environment. Don’t miss it!
- ARE 5.0 Test Prep with David Thaddeus
Beloved structures seminar facilitator, David Thaddeus, joins us to offer a parallel program for licensure candidates. With two intense days of ARE 5.0 test prep content, you’ll likewise be invited to join us for other Convention amenities to relax after an intense day of education seasoned with David’s trademark humor and engagement.
- Youth Track! Including Architecture Camp, Zoo Snooze & SpeakUp! Youth Advocacy Seminar
Kids of attendees (and others from the community, too) can learn more about the profession of architecture at this 2-day camp filled with STEAM activities to fuel their imaginations. To wrap up the second day, kids Snooze (spend the night) at the Memphis Zoo while parents enjoy the Peabody Rooftop party! On Saturday, our young participants are invited to take part in SpeakUp! Youth, a very timely and informative introduction to the world of advocacy. See details above.
- RedBirds Baseball Game & MAPP Sponsored Party
The Memphis RedBirds baseball stadium, AutoZone Park, is right across the street from the Peabody Hotel and they’re in town playing ball against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox! The evening at the park makes a great family outing.
- Peabody Rooftop Party & Expo Bucks Auction
The Expo Bucks Auction is always a hit and this year we’re taking it to the ROOF. The Peabody boasts the city’s most spectacular view from its infamous rooftop deck. We’ll enjoy music by a local artist and cap the night off with fireworks scheduled for the RedBirds stadium right across the street.
- Expo Hall
AIA|Mississippi’s Allied Partners (MAPP) will have an expo hall setup in the Continental Ballroom with doors that open into the education room. Setup will occur all day Friday with the Expo Hall and events scheduled throughout the day on Saturday to coincide with the AIA|National SpeakUp! symposium, expected to attract guests from all across the region. The Hall will be open through the beginning of the Peabody Rooftop party and guests will be directed to the hall to receive complimentary drink tickets from vendors. Break down is Sunday morning.
